Vises are Structurally Comprised of 3 Parts:
Body: The fixed part of the vise, featuring a screw slot and a fixed clamping surface to hold the material to be clamped.
Screw Part: Consists of a screw suitable for the screw hole on the fixed body, moving the adjustable clamping part to hold the item to be clamped.
Screw Handle or Clamping Handle: The piece used to turn the screw, usually fitting over it. The clamping action in vises is achieved by turning the screw handle or another system. Each full turn of the screw advances it by one screw pitch, clamping the held piece. A longer screw handle and the person's strength result in a more substantial clamping action.
The reason the vise does not loosen after clamping is due to the magnitude of the friction force between the screw and the screw slot.
